"If something's worth doing it's worth doing badly" said Martha Kearney on this morning's Today programme, quoting her father...To which my brain replied "Nonsense! What are you talking about?"
Now the morning coffee has had some time to take effect I've had chance to think about this statement a little more rationally. My visceral reaction was sparked by the societal norm of seeing success or failure as a binary construct; Either wholly positive or wholly negative. I can’t help but, think this is symptom of our obsession with instant gratification and short termism but, that’s a subject for another day.
Life, what we do each day, even our very being is a process. Overlooking this is missing an opportunity for growth typified by the trope “If something’s worth doing it’s worth doing well” which overlooks the power of growth. Doing something well speaks nothing of improvement or the search to be better. I would argue anything truly worth doing starts by doing it badly. The complicated, the hard, the worthy will take practice and learning from failure. We should accept that the first attempt might be “bad” but, it’s a start and opportunity to be better, to be our very best even.
So…take risks, be bad, learn, grow and make sure you take the wins!
Look at that, I managed a whole post without talking about pDOOH
P.S. You first pDOOH campaign doesn’t have to be perfect, the important thing is to start, gain actionable intelligence and iterate
Almost managed it.
